Terms & Community Agreement

The agreement between us

Last updated: [INSERT DATE] · Please read this before joining.

Welcome to Shadow & Kin. We've written this in plain language because it matters that you actually understand it. By creating an account or joining any group, session, or program, you agree to the terms below.

This is peer support — not therapy or medical care

Shadow & Kin is a peer support community. Our group circles, listen-in sessions, peer pairings, and facilitator check-ins are spaces for shared experience and mutual support. They are not therapy, counseling, psychological treatment, medical advice, or crisis care.

Our facilitators are trained community members with lived experience. Unless explicitly and individually stated, they are not licensed therapists, psychologists, or medical professionals, and nothing shared in our community should be treated as professional clinical advice. Guest speakers who are licensed professionals participate in an educational capacity only and do not form a treatment relationship with you.

If you are dealing with a mental health condition, we encourage you to work with a licensed professional. Shadow & Kin is meant to complement — never replace — professional care.

If you're in crisis, please reach out now

Shadow & Kin is not a crisis service and cannot provide emergency help. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, or you're having thoughts of harming yourself, please contact one of these right away:

1Who can join

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or participate in any Shadow & Kin group, session, or program. This is a space for adults navigating adult sibling relationships.

2Our community agreement

To keep this a safe space for everyone, all members agree to:

We reserve the right to remove any member who violates this agreement, without refund, to protect the community.

3Confidentiality — and its limits

We ask all members and facilitators to hold what's shared in confidence. However, please understand that we cannot guarantee the confidentiality of what other members choose to do, and we may act on information if we believe someone is at risk of harming themselves or others, or where required by law.

5Recorded & shared content

Some sessions or events may be recorded for the benefit of members. Listen-in sessions are anonymized. If you participate in content we intend to share publicly (such as filmed interviews or testimonials), we'll ask for your explicit consent first, and you can decline or withdraw it.

6Your responsibility

You take part in Shadow & Kin voluntarily and at your own discretion. You're responsible for your own wellbeing and for seeking professional help when you need it. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shadow & Kin and its facilitators are not liable for any decisions you make or outcomes that result from participating in the community.

7Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the community grows. If we make meaningful changes, we'll let you know by email or through the platform. Continuing to use Shadow & Kin after changes means you accept the updated terms.
